16 Firetrucks Extinguish Fire on Jalan Muwardi Raya

West Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency extinguished fire on Jalan Muwardi Raya, RT 07/04, Grogol Urban Village, Grogol Petamburan Sub-district, West Jakarta, Sunday (9/8) morning.

West Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency's Operation Section Head, Syarifudin, said the fire was reported at 6.10 AM. The burnt objects were a building that was used as a place to collect iron and used goods, and three boarding houses. Electrical short circuit is suspected to cause the fire.

"We deployed 16 firetrucks with 85 personnel. The fire then fully extinguished in one hour," he said.

Assistance Disbursed to Pejambon Fire Survivors

Grogol Petamburan Sub-district Head, Agus Sulaeman, stated during his visit to the scene, the fire originated from the rear of the building which was used as a place to collect iron and other used goods.

Local residents already tried to extinguish the fire with light extinguisher. However, these efforts were unsuccessful because the fire grew bigger, burning flammable items and spreading to the boarding house building.

Three West Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue personnel and two PPSU personnel were injured while struggling to extinguish the fire.

"Personnel who were injured were immediately rushed to Sumber Waras Hospital and Tarakan Regional Hospital to receive medical treatment. Meanwhile, 10 families or 12 people lost their homes due to this incident.

As a result of this fire, Agus added, the losses incurred are estimated to reach Rp 700 million.
